Introduction to Botanical Inks & Dyes

In this session, you will be introduced to methods for extracting colour from plant-based materials, including food waste as an approach to sustainable making practices. You will learn how to identify suitable plant matter for colour making and the difference between colour-fast and fugitive colour. You will be introduced to permaculture principles and how these should impact foraging and growing practices for dye plants. You will learn how to develop plant-based ink for water-based drawing practices and dyeing.

Accessibility

The studio is ground floor with wheelchair access.

An accessible toilet is next door to the studio.

There is a disabled parking space a few metres from the studio doors.

There is free parking on site on a first come, first served basis. It is a working studios so work days will be busier. There is an overflow car park a short walk from the studio.

Refreshments

Break-times will be built into the schedule.

Tea and coffee-making facilities are provided.

A vegan/vegetarian snack will be available at break time.

Materials

All materials are provided (though you are welcome to bring your own foraged materials).

If you wish to take your inks home, please bring jam jars.
